I blame this artist with leading me down my path of listening to micro-sample madness

Mega Man 1-11 X-Style Remix Medley by mega sfc

took me ages to figure out why I thought parts of this sounded familiar but there's a section around 2min that really reminds me of a track from Axiom Verge

i love it when a song makes me go "oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii"

It's a rare feeling in music and hard to find, makes my hairs stand on end. Usually heavy on the bass. I try and keep track when I find them

i played that one on loop for awhile, the feeling wore out... old addict tendencies are hard to get away from sometimes. but i'll take a good song over the bad stuff

Cera Sizzle

yea its difficult to find songs that maintain that wow factor for long and I'm the same way, jamming the same tracks/albums hundreds of times until I burn out on them. I think that's why my music tastes tend to get crazier year after year

:hey: the electronic stuff hits hard tho, that's lately my jam: autechre, kaitlyn aurelia-smith, helene vogelsinger, phonewifey

Kinda tangential to what you're saying, but I'm thinking how the trend with generative music has been less-and-less crazy, and more-and-more normative. Early experiments tended to sound like "kid banging on a keyboard", but could work quite well as an element in a composition under skilled hands (see: Streets of Rage 3).

Nowadays, Suno AI can produce supremely "competent" sounding pop music in a bajillion genres with word-salad lyrics, but it chokes at doing anything musically non-normative (such as: time signatures besides 4/4). My coworkers generate a lot of Suno songs "for the lolz", so I am too familiar with the kinds of musical tropes it can soullessly imitate (I regard the software as a mind virus).

Anyhow, since I mentioned Streets of Rage 3, I might as well poast the whole soundtrack:
