Playing more NEStroid: Santa's Death Chimney today. Turns out both Norfair and Ridley's have some crazy changes, moreso Ridley's. Some of these enemies are damn near invisible and there are Fake Ridleys everywhere.

Finally "beat" it. Based on the original description, the door glitch in Tourian is intentional, because Tourian is supposed to be blocked off in this build. I'd say the hack isn't good for obvious reasons, but it's got some interesting parts. Kraid's was definitely better designed than Brinstar.
