Zero Tolerance is really funny because I recall reading a paper on the diversity of playable characters in FPSes a decade ago, and it was cited several times for having a bunch of Firsts. (It's an otherwise sloppy but by-the-books Wolf3D clone.)

Surprisingly tolerant game, despite the title.

The roster of characters was pretty novel at the time, first woman pc in an fps I've seen. Pretty tolerant for the humans in the game.

We also get some amusing character bios. My favorite might be the person whoose specialty is basically being proficient at excel

Alice in Wonderland (1984)

now that's a classic game. is it worth playing?

Cera Sizzle

Probably not unless you can read or translate a Japanese text based adventure. There are barely any graphics to the game and they're very amateur.

Which I kind of love.

There was another release for the PC88 that had actual graphics that looks pretty neat

neen

ah, shoot. would be worth seeing the graphic scenes anyway. that's where the magic lives, evidently. i wonder how hard it is to extract assets from something like that...

Cera Sizzle

if you figured out how to extract assets from 80s Japanese games you'd be doing the world a service. I've only seen mention of things like that here

QuotePC-98 games use proprietary image extensions exclusive to certain developers, and sometimes even exclusive to specific games.

oh my.

if the tools they mentioned don't work that's a lot of reverse engineering on a system i know nothing about

alas :pensive:

Cera Sizzle

and that's for the more documented PC98. I've never seen this sort of thing for PC88 or earlier

neen

[difficult to reverse engineer, no documentation, proprietary formats]
