Oktrollberfest is a yearly game jam run by some folks in the ZZT community for the past several years. The goal is to make a "trollgame." It does not necessarily have to be a ZZT game.
Currently I don't think there's an itch jam page for this year's Oktrollberfest, but you can peruse the previous years here:
- https://itch.io/jam/oktrollberfest (2020)

EDIT: The official Oktrollberfest 2024 page has been added!
I made the character Samantha Arantes for the express purpose of being able to upload a game to itch in 2021, and have done that every year since. None of my games have been particularly trolly, but I've enjoyed making them nonetheless. (This year will (hopefully) be no exception to that rule.)
My previous games:

- https://rt-55j.itch.io/samantha-gig (https://rt-55j.itch.io/samantha-gig)
I got the premise, beginning, and ending all nicely outlined.
The middle portion is still a weird, amorphous blob that I will have to discover in the process of making it, but at least I know what the goal is.
Praying that I haven't overscoped myself.
mmmmm yummy toast
oh right, it's October :smug:
i look forward to the Game
Today I spent an inordinate amount of my devtime figuring out Samantha Arantes' middle name.
Please look forward to it.
The Oktrollberfest 2024 page is now up:

they should allow me to submit a romhack. those cowards.
you're right and you should not be afraid to say it
ububbbubbles :) :) :)
I have just completed the creation of the greatest* moment in ZZT cinematic history.
I just drew a nice bird. Please look forward to it. :)
i look forward to not only the bird but the entire game
I was sick most of last week to the point that I couldn't even work on the game most of the time. It was quite disappointing.
Fortunately the deadline for the jam was pushed back a week (the jamrunner was also sick lol).
I am one board away from having all the main pillars of the game in place. From there it will just be polishing and putting some meat on them bones, so to speak.
Hope to have a fullgame beta out before Friday.
Well, it's Friday, and I don't have a beta out yet, but the game is so close to done that I can feel it.
I am very excited with how this is turning out. Please look foward to it.
i look forward to not only the game but the bird
sorry for double posting
POST POST POST!!!
(hopefully i have a demo ready in a couple hours --- i have some business i need to attend to IRL today)
My game is out! (https://rt-55j.itch.io/sam-flies)
Please enjoy it, and please try to avoid spoilers here (especially since I don't have any spoiler markup extensions installed so far).
You can find the other submissions to Oktrollberfest here. (https://itch.io/jam/oktrollberfest-2024/entries) (Note that submissions don't close until about midnight PST today.)
i really like the style of the ascii art in this one
Thanks!
The art boards are a collab between my wife and I --- I would sketch out a basic idea, she'd turn it into proper line art, and then I'd turn it into a ZZT board.
gonna give this another go today (i posted it earlier and died and forgot saving was a thing)
oki beat the game. it's good, although i am always bad at finding my way in zzt games. but maybe I'll get better at it :hey:
I'm proud of you neen :smug:

Okay. I've played 6 out of 7 of the other Oktrollberfest games. Here's my rundown:
d by jakeout (https://jakeout.itch.io/d) - Fun little series of misadventures of a guy who quits his dead-end fast food job in a one-dimensional world. Has a good sense of humor, some solid twists and turns, and a healthy willingness to kill the player. It's a fun time all around. I want to eat a zeepza IRL despite my better judgment.
Red Deviance by Dr. Dos (https://dr-dos.itch.io/red-deviance) - This is an arena shooter featuring ZZT's trolliest built-in enemy: the centipede. The rules and scoring for the different kinds of centipede colors are a bit Undertale-floortile-game-esque, but once you get the hang of things it's not too bad. The scripting shenanigans to get some mechanics working are truly absurd.
LA VIE MODERNE DE V-QUEL by snorb (https://snorb.itch.io/la-vie-moderne-de-v-quel) - The fifth entry in Snorb's long-running parody series of official ZZT worlds (this time parodying "The Best of ZZT Part 2"). All the fun original characters and loving sadism you've come to expect from the series are still here. It's about 2 hours long, and ultimately it manages to be less meanspirited than the game it's based on. Good times.
Flypaper by dave2kb (https://dave2kb.itch.io/flypaper) - It's only 10 minutes long, but what an incredible 10 minutes they are. No spoilers, but you should really play this one.
The Case of the Banged-up Banana Truck, pt. 2: October Song by zeketiel (https://zeketiel.itch.io/the-case-of-the-banged-up-banana-truck-pt-2-october-song) - This is a sequel to The Case of the Banged-up Banana Truck (https://museumofzzt.com/file/view/bananatruck/), which is a game that was released mid-August, but with an erroneous release date of "October 1." The first game is a very silly adventure game made by a very experienced ZZTer doing some kayfabe as a novice. Its sense of humor and subversion of expectations would have made it a good fit for Oktrollberfest proper. The sequel, on the other hand, is radically different in tone, and only makes sense if you play the first game beforehand, so please do that.
WELCOME TO YUM YUM TOWN by orteruz (https://orturez.itch.io/welcome-to-yum-yum-town) - This is a very simple two board Megazeux game with 4 NPCs, one of whom is named "gma" which is short for "gmail.com." I solved an ARG puzzle and got a string of characters that I had no idea what to do with.
Magic Quest by Jeremy Kaufmann (https://whydoisay.itch.io/magic-quest) - I haven't properly played this, but I will say that getting this to even run was the real troll.
"Magic Quest" was an experience.
